MATTHEW POON PHOTOGRAPHER – UNDERCONSTRUCTION
Welcome to the all new MATTHEW POON PHOTOGRAPHER website. It has been a few years since the site has been up and running properly, however I am pleased to announce that the website is close to completion and should be fully functional by mid May.
-----------------------------------------------
At the age of 15, Matthew decided that he would like to turn his high school subject of photography into a full time future profession once he left school. With this in mind, the part time subject then turned into a full time passion for him.
It was in his final year of high school aged 17, Matthew was given the opportunity to take up a work experience placement program called INSTEP, which saw him at the door steps of Community Newspaper Group. Almost instantly, Matthew fell in love with the newspaper work environment and he knew that this line of work was something he would like to pursue. It was only a couple of days after graduating from high school that he was given the opportunity to do some casual imaging work with CNG.
The casual imaging work then became casual photography work, then in 2004 Matthew became a full-time photographer for CNG based at their Myaree branch covering for the Southern Gazette and Canning Times.
In 2006, Matthew took a break from full-time work to study journalism at Murdoch University. During his time there he met some fantastic people, as well as realising his passion for the media was still very strong. With this in mind, he returned to full-time work in 2007 to be based at the Midland branch of CNG.
Matthew was named CNG Photographer of the Year in 2009, two months after his grandma passed away. She was Matthew's biggest fan and inspiration, reading every newspaper he had photos in. After this great loss, Matthew used it to push the level of his photography to a whole new level. He is proud to say that he dedicates his photography work to her.
